Welcome to Travelers Rest, SC!

Gateway to the Mountains

Located just north of the city of Greenville, the town of Travelers Rest (TR) offers all of the community and warmth of a small town, combined with the culture and fine dining choices of a much larger community. The town is located at the convergence of U.S. Highways 276 and 25. South of Travelers Rest lies the city of Greenville with all that it has to offer, while to the northwest lies the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area with its beautiful forests and mountains.

Flourishing Community

The main thoroughfare through downtown Travelers Rest is a refreshingly walkable area that is bordered on both sides by parks, and parallels the Upstate’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 22 mile paved trail that links Travelers Rest and downtown Greenville. During the summer months, TR’s Trailblazer Park is the home of a weekly local farmer’s market that offers the freshest produce, meats, and handcrafted items from around the region. On the other side of Highway 276, near TR’s main intersection, is Gateway Park, a spacious recreational area with playground, activity fields, basketball and tennis courts, and a bike skills park.

At Home in TR

Travelers Rest offers the home buyer a variety of choices. New developments are growing up throughout TR, and offer an array of home sizes and styles. Also, TR is home to a range of established communities to explore both within city limits and in other neighborhoods close by.

So Much to Explore

TR is an ideal community for those that love the outdoors. In addition to charming local parks, much of northern Greenville County is a haven for those who love cycling, while Pickens County to the west is home to Jones Gap State Park, Caesar’s Head State Park, and Table Rock State Park in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness area. Each park has its own unique charm: Jones Gap is a wonderland of ethereal waterfalls, Caesar’s head is an easy-to-access overlook with an awe-inspiring view, and Table Rock State Park offers a challenging hike with a rewarding destination on the mountaintop. If you need to gear up for one of these adventures, check on Sunrift Adventures in the heart of Travelers Rest: it’s the perfect place to find everything you’ll need for biking, backpacking, kayaking, and climbing!

Educational Emphasis

Travelers Rest is a wonderful place for students. In addition to two excellent elementary schools, a middle and high school, TR is also the home of the beautiful Furman University. Just outside TR city limits, Furman University boasts one of the most beautiful college campuses in the US, along with excellent academic programs. The university also offers continuing education programs for the community in a wide variety of interesting topics. Furman borders the Swamp Rabbit Trail and is a beautiful place to take a stroll or relax beside the campus lake.

Local Culture

For those who enjoy exploring exciting dining options, TR has an expanding array of choices. Restaurants like Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse, Leopard Forest Coffee, and Upcountry Provisions provide sumptuous options for breakfast and/or coffee, while Shortfields, Farmhouse Taco, Hare & Field, or Sushi Yama are delightful choices for a meal later in the day. If you want a cool sweet treat for afternoon or evening, look no further than Pink Mama’s Ice Cream, located right off TR’s S Main St, or just off of the Swamp Rabbit Trail if you’re traveling on foot or by bicycle.

Whatever you enjoy in your community, you’re certain to find it in Travelers Rest. It’s the perfect fusion of small town with the comforts of a larger city.
